Simon Skovgard was born 21 January 1877 in Greenleaf, Washington, Kansas to Jens Christian (changed to James Christian in the USA) Skovgaard and Katherine Marie Hansen both from Denmark. Simon changed his last name to only having one "a". He married Hope Scott in Greenleaf, Washington, Kansas in 1897. They moved around but eventually settled on a homestead in Basin, Big Horn, Wyoming in a house which he built. He served in the Wyoming State Senate and was the president of the senate in 1923. He was a prominent member of the community. He died in 23 May 1924.
