Truels Nissen var fribonde på Hjerndrupgård i Hjerndrup Sogn.

Truels Nissen er ane til bl.a. slægterne Damgaard og Juhl.

Truels Nissen was born about 1565 at Hjerndrupgaard. His father was Nis Truelsen. The name of his mother is not known.

Truels Nissen was married about 1595, but the old sources do not mention the name of the bride. The information is that they had 5 children: Karen, Woldborg, Nis, Kirsten and Bertel.

Of these are Woldborg and Nis known: Woldborg married Jørgen Arnkiel and Nis succeeded his father as the owner of Hjerndrupgaard.

On November 18, 1598 Truels Nissen took over another farm situated in Tyrstrup near Hjerndrup and his possessions were thus expanded with the farm named Boyskovlund.

In 1618, 1619 and 1621 Truels Nissen is mentioned as a 'sandemand' (local lay judge). He died 1625.

Hjerndrupgaard

Hjerndrupgaard is mentioned already 1334 as a 'free farm'. A charter (letter of freedom) was 1334 assigned to an earlier owner of Hjerndrupgaard. This charter meant that the owner of the farm would be free of tax to the Crown. The reason for this charter is not known. Often the charter was given for services to the Crown such as availability in case of war.

The farm belonged to the family of various esquires, and from 1598 Hjerndrupgaard was owned by Truels Nissen, and the farm stayed in his family until 1901. At that time the land was ab. 700 acres.

Through the years the name of the owner was Nis Truelsen or Truels Nissen until 1805. The charter and the title of 'frimand' was inherited through the generations of the family. The last 'frimand' of this family was Truels Nissen (1635-1699).

Truels blev gift med Sara CHRISTENSDATTER i 1595. (Sara CHRISTENSDATTER blev født i 1575 i Øsby Sogn, Haderslev Herred, Haderslev Amt, døde den 01.09.1659 i Haderslev Købstad og blev begravet i 9.1659 på Maugstrup Kirkegård, Maugstrup Sogn, Gram Herred, Haderslev Amt.)
